History & Description
The Nikko Alpha 3 is part of the Japanese company Nikko’s highly regarded Alpha series of power amplifiers from the late 1970s and early 1980s. Nikko was known for precision engineering and clean circuit design, and the Alpha 3 reflected the brand’s philosophy of offering powerful, no-nonsense amplification with excellent build quality. Although Nikko eventually faded from the mainstream hi-fi market, the Alpha 3 remains a prized collectible among vintage enthusiasts.
Technical Specifications
The Nikko Alpha 3 is a stereo power amplifier delivering 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms with very low distortion. It features wideband frequency response from 10 Hz – 50 kHz, ensuring excellent clarity across the spectrum. Total harmonic distortion is typically below 0.01%, and the signal-to-noise ratio exceeds 100 dB. The chassis measures about 435 mm (W) x 145 mm (H) x 380 mm (D) and weighs around 12 kg. Built with large power reserves and robust heatsinking, the Alpha 3 is capable of driving a wide range of speaker systems with authority.
