The Technics SL-B31 was introduced in the early 1980s as part of Technics’ affordable belt-drive series. While not as famous as the legendary SL-1200 direct-drive models, the SL-B31 offered dependable playback with a semi-automatic mechanism, making it a practical option for casual listeners. With Technics’ engineering reliability, this turntable became popular among users looking for simplicity and durability without sacrificing sound quality.
Technical Specifications
The SL-B31 is a belt-drive, semi-automatic turntable supporting 33⅓ and 45 RPM playback. It features an S-shaped tonearm with an adjustable counterweight and standard ½-inch cartridge mount. Wow & flutter: 0.045% WRMS, signal-to-noise ratio: >70 dB (DIN-B weighted). The platter is aluminum die-cast, providing stable rotation. Dimensions: 430 mm (W) x 145 mm (H) x 360 mm (D). Weight: approx. 5.5 kg. Reliable and user-friendly, the SL-B31 remains a great example of Technics’ belt-drive engineering.
